    Stinger lifts

I know they advertise in the driveline. Does anyone have one? Interested in a 4 post storage lift. Feedback appreciated

My ceilings are 9'7, so I know I will have to raise the door rail all the way to the ceiling. I plan to stack my 63 and 69 for now, but eventually will stack a first generation camaro and my 69 vette.

53.5 inch lock position will clear 51 inch tall camaro. The platform is 6 inches tall and a 69 vette is 49 inches tall. Total height of both cars on lift in lock position would be 108.5 inches and I have 115 inches to the ceiling.

    Re: Stinger lifts

    Gary,
I have a Direct Lift in my garage. There was a lift at the Florida meet that was exactly the same in all aspects as mine but had a different name brand on it. Sounds as if some are just renamed. A few guys in our chapter have Direct and all seem pleased. One guy has four of them. Sorry I'm not familiar with Stinger.

Gary check out QUALITYLIFTS.COM. They are a division of Challenger Lifts in Louisville Ky. All of their 4 post lifts are ALI certified which is very important for safety. The Quality Lifts have a adjustable lock bar which would fix your ceiling problem.
We have installed Quality lifts in little over 9 ft for 2 corvettes

I had a stinger for my 65 in Ind. There have been some name changes/companies over the years with Stinger as I recall. Couple of copies, all seem to be similar. I can send you some photos of it if you want. See if you can buy one all ready assembled after a car show near you.
I copied this from another forum:
" Lots of four-post lifts have derived from this design. The fella that started Stinger worked for one of the larger lift companies that made lifts for the home user. I believe it was Auto Lifter, that has since closed their doors over a year ago. He took their design and made improvements to the locking mechanisms, increased the cylinder size, and improvements to the cable system. And came up with some new options like aluminum ramps and wheels. I know that he produced them in his own shop and was forever increasing his capacity. Because he couldn’t keep up with the orders. He saw the writing on the walls and sold Stinger with the invasion of cheep re-badged Chinese copies. And I have no idea where Stinger lifts are manufactured now. "

Here is web site that mentions change in company from whom I bought mine.

Just to tag-team onto what Ken already said....

I have an older Stinger 4-post lift that I love. No issues after well over a decade of service both as a storage unit and for working access. I only wish I had more ceiling height to allow for different combinations of vehicles being on top versus bottom versus fitting at all, e.g. I can't fit 2 stacked Chevelles.

However, I'm confident that the Stinger brand I have is not much related to the Stinger brand currently available, and maybe a couple different companies in between. Different logo, different fonts, but still in Midwest somewhere. I investigated these lifts pretty well at the time (long time ago now), and at that time there were few, if any, significant differences between the various brands. Maybe things have changed since?

I have three Stinger lifts and after five cars were restored on the lift I use all the time I had to replace two pulleys and shim the nylon slides. This lift went up and down all day long for ten years so I think the repairs were to be expected.

I have a 1999 vintage Stinger lift and love it. I upgraded the cable pulleys from bushings to bearings for added safety. I think this is now standard on their lifts. As I recall Perry is the man at Stinger you want to talk to.
