65 l78 ignition shielding Qs

if i understand correctly, a 65 l78 should have a "small key hole" shield? this was the first design, and that gm went to larger opening. my Q is, when was the cut off for the small to large opening? was it later in the 65 model yr, or into the 66 production yr? i can find the second design but have not seen a small one?

I believe this is the 2nd design (missing the grounding clip). 1965 judging guide (5th ed.) Quote: "it is unknown which design occured first; however the larger design is believed to be the 2nd design".

so then, if my car is a april car,which i think i should have the smaller of the two, but i have a large key hole on it, i would not get docked either way?

Troy & Wayne I have the shield off of #16120 (April) and it has the same hole as your picture about 1 1/2 by 2. I have never seen a smaller hole ? Its funny they made the hole so the points could be adjusted without removing the shield and used a dist. without points ?????

hahaaaha, i know Bill !!! odd very odd...im good with the larger one im #115926 not to far from you..i did learn that i have a old judging manual [2nd edition] so its time to buy a new one....thanks again everyone
