Original door panels black tape, please explain

According to my 65 Judging Guide, under Interior Window Seals, "original panels, except black, have a black tape between the door panel and the stainless trim to mask the color of the door panel." Can someone explain this? Any pictures? How can I duplicate to avoid losing points?

    Thanks for your input.

It looks like black crepe paper.

William . when you look through the window from the outside the area below the chrome strip on the door panel should be black . If you have a interior color other than black it will show when the window is not up.

The tape is available through automotive glass suppliers.
