Re: 1958 oil pan question
If you mean by other motors for the 58 Corvette the answer is yes. It should be have a 3-step configuration with a smooth surface on the entire bottom. Will have two indentations on both sides. One measures 6 7/8" long and the other 1 1/4'. There are no other indentations. Two small rather obvious dimples , approximately 2 1/2 " apart, are located on the second step. They were used to line up the inside pan baffle prior to it being spot welded in place. This pan has a 5 qt. capacity. It is correct for mid 56, 57 and 58 Corvettes. The part number for the correct Corvette production pan for this time period is 3735642 I am unaware if this part # was ever available over the counter. The replacement pan from Chevrolet parts departments were 3 step but did not have the correct exterior configuration. Incidentally, the popular 3 step trap door HP pan often referred to as a replacement was not available during this time period. As for most passenger car pans they were not the same. Your 58 judging manual should have all this information.- Top
