    1971 hood weatherstrip

I am trying to figure out how far the hood weatherstrip goes on a c3 hood, 1971. I have searched and cannot find out anything. Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sheldon

    Hi Sheldon,
The piece of hood weatherstrip on my 71 is 67 3/4" long.
I have no reason to think they were all exactly the same length.
The left side (the part that wraps to the side of the hood from the rear edge) is about 1" longer than the right side.
So they weren't necessarily installed evenly either.
    Regards,
    Alan

This is the right-side wrap I tried to describe. In my next life I'll know to move the camera slightly so you can see how far it extends.

      Alan,
thanks for the info, do you have any pics of the front part of the hood showing how the blackout was done. I am just redoing mine and haven,t found any pics showing that part. I believe they painted the blackout right to the front edge of the hood.

          Hi Sheldon,
At least on my car the front of the underside of the hood had very little paint of any kind…. neither body color nor black-out, on it.
You might want to take a look at member Patrick Hulst's Bowtie 72 pictures too. I believe there are some of the forward part of the underside of the hood.
This car had original paint on it.
          Regards,
          Alan

That's bare fiberglass on the vertical surface of the inner hood.

          Same left corner.

They didn't take much care with the blackout on the forward edge of the hood. The hood was installed on the car when the blackout was done by a worker standing in the engine compartment. The hood was held up by a hook from the overhead of the assembly line and the worker shot the inner fenders, windshield wiper compartment, up the A-pillar, and forward to the core support and the underside of the hood.
If you spend too much time making it pretty it will not be TFP, and you have already spent more time on it that they did on the assembly line. Pay attention to the side margins where the black out meets body color. Note where the color changes are and that the edge is fuzzy. Duplicate that. Also note the hood hinges are mostly, but not entirely black. I know it takes time and effort, but examination of several un-restored Corvettes of the era will be less troublesome than getting it wrong and learning to live with or correct the results. We could go on and on describing the proper black out, but one or two un-restored Corvettes would tell you more than we can in a week.
