    78 clock removal and repair

Before I jump into this I thought i would ask for any tips on removing my original clock for repair. How does the bezel detach from console and dash pad (there is a down light at the top), do the radio knobs/nuts need to come off?? I imagine it won't hurt to mask off the console. Is the clear defuser attached to the bezel and do the gauges including the clock stay inplace when the bezel is removed?? Thanks for any advise guys.......

I have done this a couple of times and find that I have to do it again...good review for me as well. I have the console for a Pace Car loose so if something comes, drop me a note and I can check.

How does the bezel detach from console and dash pad (there is a down light at the top),
Yes. An AIM is helpful to see the tabs and how the console fits/tucks into pad and driver's console (where tranny shift is). At the top it tucks in and you have to gently remove it...once you have performed tasks below.

do the radio knobs/nuts need to come off??
Yes. Also note that while you are at that bottom end, two screws on the side secure it to the driver's console. You also have to loosen the driver's console and slide it back away from the cluster console. Remove the carpet panels on each side (three screws per side) and locate the console tabs that screw to metal tabs. Remove them and you can slide the console rearward. Also remove the emergency brake console cover where you can access the two rearward console tabs on either side.

I imagine it won't hurt to mask off the console.
If you are careful and patient, no need to

Is the clear defuser attached to the bezel and do the gauges including the clock stay in place when the bezel is removed??
Not sure what the clear defuser is but the clock will both unscrew and disconnect from the circuit floppy board. But yes the clock will remain in place when the bezel is removed (as I recall).
