    thanks,

Are you pushing the knob up while turning it? You must push the knob up, and sometimes push up very hard, to engage the gears. Conversely to release the reset gears one has to pull the knob down with a good deal of force or the trip odometer will not turn as the car is driven.

If all else fails, it is possible the gears internal to the speedometer/odometer have failed and a remove & rebuild may be in order. It will be worth your time and effort to be sure you are attempting to operate the odometer reset properly before you R & R the speedometer/odometer.

To add to Terry's post, take a peak under the dash and make sure the cable is still attached to the back of speedo, I have seen them come off at the back of speedo on occasion.

        Thanks Terry.
yes I've tried pushing and pulling hard but although it turns nothing moves. I guess it's somehow not hooked up to the gears

Wille, the gears have been known to strip out form use, they were really not the best set-up

This. It's relatively difficult to engage the gears and, at least on my 70, more difficult to release them. To release I have to pull the knob down while wiggling it repeatedly until I feel a little "snap" when the gears release, and only then I can rotate the knob slightly clockwise/counter-clockwise (without moving the numbers). Only then do I know the gears are free, and it's the only way they'll turn.

It takes a little practice to get the "feel" for this, and I hope it's your only problem. Good luck.
