Re: Fuel injection 63
Each 63 unit is identified by a number on the tag on the drivers side of the plenum. The units were installed in roughly numeric order, so those numbers can be associated with a range of cars, but not a particular car. If you are looking for a unit to put on a particular car, you should try to get one whose number could have been on that car, but, in any case, certainly not one higher than the expected range. There is an equation for calculating this in an earlier thread here.Mike

Re: Fuel injection 63
Looking for the correct number range of a '63 unit is a tall order as you well know. Better off looking for one that has good castings making sure the plenum legs are NOT cracked or welded. Also need to know you engine build date as many variations of '63 units.
I am going to say there are roughly 4 or so variations.
Tag issue can resolved today or so I hear.
Meanwhile my '63, the little white car, (LWC) is sadly neglected but one of my two NY's Eve resolutions is to get that baby running and out the door. JD- Top

Re: Fuel injection 63
John, I've got three variations (two on my cars and one in my garage), but don't have the one with the open legs (the screw visible in the plenum leg). I always thought those were on the very early cars, but a couple weeks ago Michael Hansen sent me a pic of an early (pilot) Motor Trend test car that has solid legs. It also has crossed-flags no emblem, unplated tubing, a black dipstick, black oil filler and black cap.Mike

Re: Fuel injection 63
Thank you John.
Where do I find the decoder for cross reference relating VIN SN to tag number?

Re: Fuel injection 63
Rich,
Multiply the last five digits of your car's VIN number by .179, then add 976 to get the ideal fuel unit number. Numbers between 1000 and the one you calculate are probably good, significantly higher (ie: +100) numbers are bit suspect...
Correction: The pic I referred to in post #5 was actually an October or November car and the balance tubes were chrome (per Michael Hansen')Mike

The solid leg unit that Hanson sent you might have been a sand cast unit. The firs t die cast plenum's were recessed nozzle blocks with four bosses. Two on each end of the plenum. You know the routine on the bosses. The rear were crudely hacked off if you had a radio. Next plenum was the same except all the 4 bosses were machined off. etc.
