How hard to find 1111 464 distributor for 1970 LS-5??

    Gang;

Looking for a friend for has a 1970 LS-5 454. He pulled distributor and sent to Lars for rebuild. Lars responded that it was completely trashed and he would have to find another one. I trust Lars so I told my friend I would help look for one.

How difficult to find one of these animals in good core condition to have rebuilt by Lars?

Again, looking for a Delco Remy 1111464 unit.

    Thanks for any help

    Don,
I personally would question what trashed means. Also I assumed you kept the dated tag off of the distributor prior to sending it?

    Good Luck.

Personally, I don't see how any 62-74 Corvette distributor could be so "completely trashed" that no part of it could be re-used, especially if the distributor came out of a running car. At the very least, the housing should be rebuildable with, at most, the installation of new bushings.

In any event, it's not actually necessary to find an 1111464 unit. Just about any 1962-74 Corvette distributor can be re-curved to match the specifications of the 1111464. Then, with the proper vacuum control installed, it becomes a 1111464. Presumably, he still has the distributor ID band from the original distributor. Just install that on the new distributor for the "finishing touch".

Thanks gentlemen for the reply. I too was surprised with the response from Lars. I'm sure many folks know him on this forum as well as the CF forum. He has done both my 63 and 70 units to perfection.

I'll get with my friend to see what exactly he did say.

I will also ask him about his tag. I had my tag on my unit and did not send it when I had Lars do mine.

          I agree.

Another option is to call Dave at TI Specialty and get his opinion. He is a bit $$$$ but he can rebuild/remake just about any distributor. He was even reproducing his own TI reproduction BB distributors awhile back.

The original band is what makes the unit special. The other differences can easily be done to almost any other good core/unit.

Thanks for all the replys. I think this is a situation where there was damage to the unit that Lars did not want to tackle.

I checked with my friend and he does have the original metal band with number and date code. So that is good.

He he said that he has been looking on Flea Bay and I was wondering if any one could help us understand what type of core distributors would be acceptable.

            Thanks for any guidance.

Just about any 1962-74 non-TI tach drive distributor with vacuum advance. These can be reconfigured to meet the specs of the 1111464.
