Correct 1964 Fuelie Air Cleaner Question

    Hello,

Is there anybody who can identify and is certain what year this air cleaner is correct for? The clip bracket is separate from the mounting bracket to the fender.

I was told by the seller it is the later style air cleaner for 64-65 cars. I purchased a NCRS judging guide and it doesn't look like the one pictured. Need the correct one for a mid year built '64 car.

    Thanks for any help.

Picture on the red background is an early FI air cleaner. The other is the late air cleaner. Note the position of the clamp in relationship to the fender mounting bracket.

Yours looks like the early style, used till maybe mid 63 IIRC. From that point on, the later style was used. Your 64 should have the later style.

Something doesn't quite look correct with your wire clamps.

Mike, I am a tad confused which doesn't take much. First of all both of your photos depict/show a '63 air cleaner.

Just figured it out. Dr. Chuck put up the red photo of a '63 & on the right the one you need.

Here's the scoop on the reasoning behind the changine of the location of the three cannister lid retaining clamps.
Mechanics were complaining they were burning their hands on the clip that was close to the exhaust manifold.
      So the clips were relocated.
Pretending the hood isn't there. Standing at the front of the car and looking at the air cleaner. The clips were rotated clockwise.
You should be able to put about 1-1/2 finger better the inner fender and the center of the retainer for your car.
Or forget that and look to see that the retainer is spot welded to thee big heavy duty bracket . On the '63 that particular retainer would be attached to ther sheet metal cannister and not the bracket.

If you can get the '63 air cleaner for a bargain there are guys that can change the location of those clamps for you. John D
