    C2 Hinge bushings

I know this has been addressed multiple time, but I just wanted to check to see if anyone managed to find hinge bushings that are closer in length to the originals than what GM or the corvette parts vendors currently sell.

    Thanks,

I went to a Cadillac dealership and bought pins and bushings a few years back. I think all GM cars used the same pins from the 50's into the 90's. They are a little longer than the original pins so I cut them down and beveled the tip with my grinder the bushings were fine. They worked fine and passed judging.

i "double bushed" my door hinge bushings using the repro shorter bushings.

Install the first bushing. File the flange off the top. They are bronze so it will be easy. Use an old bushing to drive the first bushing lower into the bore. Install second bushing. Repeat for other end. You now have twice as much bearing area for your bushings, ie. 4 bushings instead of 2

I used the Dorman 38400 bushing kit...it seemed to be a little snugger fit in my '63 coupe hinges. I wish I had double-bushed it at the time but did not do so. Heck, now it'll prob only last another 50 years...

Don - A few years ago, I needed to replace the worn hinge pins and bushings in my 66 Coupe. The over-the-counter bushings available from the local Chevy Dealer were the short versions but they worked fine. A year or so later, I needed to work on the tailgate hinges of my 56 Nomad and when I received the hinge pin and bushing kit from Danchuk, the bushings wound up being the longer versions identical to the originals from the 66 Coupe. At that time, the hinge repair kit was around $12 from Danchuk. Well, I recently got my latest catalog from them and no longer see the tailgate hinge repair kit listed. While it would be nice to have the identical and longer bushings to replace the originals, I expect the shorter replacements, when adequately lubed, will suffice.

Thanks all. I'm sure the short bushings will work fine. I used them on a 60 restoration. I was just checking to see if anyone had found the longer ones.
