The enclosed graph shows the relationship between 1962 Corvette VIN numbers and the FI unit Serial numbers that I have observed. More numbers would be nice.

Re: 1962 FI Unit Serial Numbers
Especially those "above the line" because they were probably made after the car. It would be nice to be able to tell when the units were made.- Top

Re: 1962 FI Unit Serial Numbers
I've seen a study on 63's (that is where I got the idea) but no other. There may be others out there.- Top

Re: 1962 FI Unit Serial Numbers
The late Dale Pearman kept a similar chart of '62 FI serial numbers vs. VIN's. He claimed his chart was based on cars with known original units. You may want to contact his nephew, Ken Hansen, who has Dale's chart now. Ken's phone number in Medina, TN, is (731) 783-0815.- Top

The graph includes Dale's data. I do not make any judgement as to originality. I let the data speak for itself.- Top

Re: 1962 FI Unit Serial Numbers
The data doesn't necessarily say this "this is original", but, as with the 63's chart, there's a clear trend of original units. The outliers below the trend may be repaired units, put on later car at the plant, as the "original" unit for that car. The one's way above the trend can only be units made after the car was assembled. Such a unit could have gotten on the car later as a warranty or other repair, or could, heaven forbid, signal a made-up car.
