I am in the process of rechroming parts and would like to rechrome my turn signal lever. How do I safely and non destructively remove the white plastic end piece so it can be reused? I cant imagine it just pulls off, so I was thinking of heating the shaft, very carefully at the opposite end of the plastic, therefore slightly melting the inside diameter of the plastic and pulling off, anyone done this before? If you have what technique did you use?

Dino,
Trim Parts makes a new signal lever that would probably be cheaper than taking yours apart and chroming the shaft. Then trying to get the knob to fit properly after chroming might be a chore. The 61-62 Turn Signal Lever listed for $19.50 in the 2012 catalog.
