Been looking at a book called ' Corvette The difinitive guide to the all American sports car" The first 55 pages are pretty much all about the 53 - 55 Corvette with lots of pictures. One shows a engine with the Decal on top of the Valve Cover that say's 'Special with a bolt of lightning. I have seen others that say ' Blue Flame Six. I have also seen some that say nothing. Which is correct?

1953 Corvettes had 2 decals: an arrow pointing to the words Blue Flame on the right side and the word Special with a lightning bolt on the left side. The valve cover is more rounded and fastened with 2 acorn nuts on the top.
1954 and 1955 (the 7 or so 6 cylinder) Corvettes had two decals on the painted valve covers: an arrow pointing to the words Blue Flame followed by the numbers 150 inside another arrow on the right side only. Nothing on the left side. Chrome valve covers did not have the decals. 1954/55 valve covers are more rectangular in shape and fastened with 4 screws plus special washers.
So....depending on which year and which side of the engine you were viewing, you would see different (or no) decals.
