I am new to NCRS and would like to know where to discuss/find a reputable corvette shop in Dallas Texas. I have a solid lifter 427 and need a place to get the valves adjusted from time to time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New to NCRS
Charles, welcome aboard!!! This is by far the most informative bunch of guys you will ever meet. I have learned more from this board and this organization than I ever imagined. I would concur with Gary WHOLE-HEARTEDLY and recommend you join the Texas Chapter of the NCRS. I know a bunch of those guys and they are ALL great guys, with great cars and have a huge amount of knowledge. Between Tim Gilmore, The King brothers, Carl, Mike, Howard, etc you have more resources than a lot of other Chapters.......ARA- Top

Re: New to NCRS
Thanks for the note!
I look forward to learning more about my Corvette.
I have been looking for a while and finally found the one.
I have heard that NCRS was the premier organization to learn the MOST about originality and restoration.
You guys are the experts...

Re: New to NCRS
Welcome aboard, Charlie. Carr's Corvette's and Customs in Plano, Texas has a great reputation for quality work. I've known Carr for 20 years and he's a quality guy who does quality work. Don't expect fast and don't expect cheap...that's an oxymoron in the classic Corvette world.Leif

Re: New to NCRS
Why not learn to adjust the valves yourself?
It takes only simple hand tools and a feeler gauge.
Other parts required would be new rocker cover gaskets and sealant.
Just because its a Corvette doesn't mean only a specialist can do it. It is a Chevy first and they are really simple to work on. You'll also get the satisfaction of doing the job yourself. You could host a learning party of other Corvette enthusiasts, and learn how and meet some nice fellas (and gals). Join the local chapter and see who is around you to show you how to. You could even learn how to do a complete frame off restoration.
But......Welcome to the NCRS!

Re: New to NCRS
The Texas Chapter is the best. But, I have two solid lifter C2s (a '64 L76 and a '67 L71) and after four years of about 1000 miles per year, they don't need adjusting yet, so don't be in a hurry, it takes a lot of driving before they need it.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: New to NCRS
DonO,
My brother and I were just talking about learning to do the valve adjustment ourselves. I would love to learn to do it myself but need guidance. I am going to join my local chapter (Texas). Maybe someone there will share the knowledge.
Thanks for the note.

Re: New to NCRS
Charles,
Not hard to do at all. If I were closer I would "instruct" you thru the process. Lots of information on line as to "DIY" how to. Remember setting the lash on any big block chevy is the same procedure. Does not have to be a "Corvette" shop to do it. Good info on Texas Chapter NCRS. Lot of guys out there with 396/427 solid lifters. IMO changing the valve cover gaskets (and this should be done) is a bigger hassle than setting the lash. Good luck and give it a try ! Welcome to the wonderful world of Big Blocks" !!! Maybe Ray will see this - he is in your area and the original owner of a 1965 L78.- Top
