On my 1961 CU engine I have a 270 decal on the RH valve cover only based on what I was told last year. Is there supposed to be a LH decal applied as well?

Thanks Frank. See you at Sun 'n Fun?
Off topic question. I have few things I could sell and things I need to buy like door panels (my metal sucks). What's the best way to connect with someone who's going to be there buying, and anyone like me who might have a few things for sale but not want to have a booth?- Top

I have a complete set of Al Knoch '61 door sheet metal including the kick panels; new in the box if you are interested. It doesn't include the S-trim stainless piece or the little oval that goes around the interior door knob (most originals are still in good shape).
I bought this set thinking I would have to replace mine when I went to power windows in order to mount the switches. Turns out that the switches fit in the old crank handle locations in each door with no problems. These pieces have never lived anywhere but in the original boxes...just like the day I got them.- Top

Re: '61 270 HP decals on both valve covers?
I was "killing" time yesterday at the GMC dealer by reading my 1961-1962 TIM&JG. On page 130 it states that all 1961 aluminum covers have a decal on each side. Do I need a clarification from the team leader?- Top

As Jim told you way back -- one decal on the PS valve cover...
Look in Noland Adams C1 Resto & Tech Guide on page 372 - an original 270hp pic with a blank DS valve cover and text discussing the single decal.
You can't always trust the JG - just ask anybody that's had a '63 judged...- Top

I wouldn't bother the TL with that question. Dennis knows the drill; he's on the team.
When in doubt, follow the TIM&JG. (insofar as a decal, which can always be removed)
as others often say, don't remove a known original part just to conform with the JG.
That is different than a decal.Last edited by Don H.; September 2, 2016, 12:37 PM.- Top

But incorrect in the real world. I just got the new and improved 1965 JG. The previous issue was full of mistakes. The new one is better but it's a LONG way from being mistake free.- Top
