    C2 Horn rebuild questions

What looks like 6 rivets holding the steel back on the aluminum horn body is really only 5 rivets and one projection from the horn body peened over like a rivet. Since you can't replace that after grinding off the peened end, how do you resecure that part of the horn body to the steel back. Do you drill thru and install a screw or just make do with the 5 rivets?

The steel diaphram in my 67 horn has a couple of small rust holes. My LI repair kit does not include a diaphram, just a file. Are new diaphrams available?

    Pat,

Look at LIC part number 18-62B, it includes diaphrams, ZIP also has a kit that includes diaphrams.

Also there is also a good article in the Fall 2006 Restorer on rebuilding the C2 horns. If you don't have a copy, let me know and I'll email you a copy,

    Don

P.S.: Steve and I need to come visit you again sometime to see the progress on your car. We haven't seen it since you ran the engine.

Don-- Fall is the only 2006 Restorer I can find, but I do not see any horn article in it. I found a horn article in a Spring 2000 Restorer, but I would like to read any newer article. Thanks for the Zip reference.

You and Steve are always welcome at my garage. The body of my 67 convertible is at Zane Finney's shop in Hancock Md now waiting to go on the body dolley currently occupied by Mike McCagh's beautiful blue 396 coupe. I'm workimg on 67 components now like the horns, gages, heater etc, and I'm going to put an LS-6 low manifold on the ZL-1 engine soon so I can put the stock hood back on my enhanced 70 LT-1.

I just emailed you the article, it was in Volume 33 #2.
