1967 Coupe Judging Questions

I've been helping a friend get his 67 ready for Lakeland. I'm a 63/64 "guy" and I am not familiar with the nuances of the 67. He called me this AM. His computer is down, so I'm asking these questions for him. I have no 67 reference material here at my house.

1. Kick panels. He previously got a deduct for missing screws. He has 3 on the trailing edge. I think he should have one toward the front and one on the top, BUT........... I'm not sure. Anyone know?

2. Interior quarter trim panel. He got a deduct for having the bolt/screw through the carpet. I believe it should be under the carpet flap, but the question remains screw vs. bolt.

3. Hood release cross cable, the one that runs RT to LT between the female hood latches.... he has an AO Smith car. He has a new unpainted cable. He was told that the cable does NOT run enclosed within the plastic cable ties. True/False?

quick answers because time is running short before the meet. There is a 50-50 chance these answers are correct
1. your three screws plus one under the kick panel vents and one in forward upper corner
2. bolt under the carpet on 1/4 trim panel. Correction, not bolt but rather a large sunken hex head sheet metal screw.
3. the spring cross cable is held to underside of cowl with the riveted metal clips. The plastic ties hang from the cross cable to hold the harness, and ww washer tube.

The information may be the archives about the kick panel screws because there was a change over from three and two verses all the same I think during the 67 M/Y, depending on the serial #.

I remember something about that from years ago.

There are six kick panel screws, there was a controversy over whether all six were the same (3 shoulder type chrome Phillips head with washers), but in the latest TIM&JG, it says all six the same is shown in the AIM revision that is dated June, 1966, just before '67 production began, but that some 'early '67 cars were built with the '66 style conical washers on the three screws forward of the three door opening wind lace screws.

I remember something about that from years ago.

If I'm understanding his question, I believe that he is missing the 3 additional screws on each kick panel. He has the 3 on the trailing edge, holding the windlace............ but the others are absent.

This is a convertible but some of it may apply.

These were original kick panels I restored on a Nov '66 car. You can see the hole count, also some original(loose) screws vs reproduction(bagged) differences.

Right, but that trim screw isn't right IIRC. It had them in there and I put them back in.

Chuck, I looked in the AIM for a refresher. Unfortunately the detail of the hardware for both 437 and 467 and the fact that the carpet flap is supposed to be OVER the bottom edges of the trim is absent, which made it confusing for me at that time. I recall the guys here helped me with getting it right. If I had a little more time this AM I'd search the archives for the thread but heading out to a new chrome shop a hour away and running late. But for now...........

I found a few more of a L89 Coupe that belongs to a friend. I took a few pics of that area I just found. Not sure if typical or not. Maybe someone else can confirm. It's a late one, 21,xxx.

Thanks again. Since my buddy's computer is "down and out", I have printed off your photos, and I'm hoping to get them to him today.

I actually haven't looked at his car for several months. He's on the final push before Lakeland to get a lot of little things done.

I'm going up sometime early next week to help him replace both radio side panels. With the VA installation, they installed 63-66 panels without the vent pull provisions. (the vents are non functional with Vintage Air).

He wants to have the correct appearing panels even if the vent pulls will not actually operate the vents.

The hex-head screw through the bottom of the convertible plastic trim panel into the body sill (which is covered later by the carpet) is shown in UPC 1-Asm, sheet F14, item #6, screw #9420430. The cardboard coupe trim panel doesn't use this attachment.

The chrome trim screw through the carpet that covers the bottom of both coupe and convertible trim panels is shown in UPC 1-Asm, sheet F11, item #5. screw #4816192.

Photo below from Dave Zuberer shows that area on a '65 coupe, which is configured the same way as the '67; the chrome screw is in the upper hole, and the lower hole is for the outer seat belt bolt.
