    Door glass removal

How hard is it to remove the door glass on a C3 with window cranks? The service manual says to raise the window and remove the 2 sash screws on the channel through the opening in the door, while using your other hand to hold the nut. I want to replace the window channel rollers and bushings with a parts kit.

    Re: Door glass removal

    Hi Gary,
I remove the interior trim panel and then the 'upper stops' in each of the 2 tracks.
This allows the glass to be raised high enough out of the door to just create access to the bottom of the glass and it's fasteners that attach it to the window operating mechanism. I then remove the glass.
This should let you get at the parts you want to change or enable you to disassemble more of the mechanism until you have access to the rollers and bushings.
Be careful, it's easy to scratch the glass with a tool in there!
    Regards,

      Hi Alan,
Thank you for the tip, I've never attempted to do this and any help is appreciated.

I'll add that window R & R is one of the most tedious jobs I've done on my C3. Mind what Alan says and protect the glass from scratching. You should also budget a LOAD of time for adjusting/readjusting the glass to fit the door and top. In my case, I had to first fit it to the convertible's soft top, then to the auxiliary hard top. I spent the biggest part of a day setting mine up. Be careful when closing the door while adjusting. Too little clearance between the window and the A pillar could cause glass chipping or breaking. Close the door softly to make certain it's not too tight
        .

Good luck with this. You will like the results but you'll probably hate the work.

          Don,
Thank you for the advice. I've adjusted the door glass to fit before and it is very time consuming to get it where you want it. I will have to do it all again after taking this window out and replacing the rollers and bushings for the window channel track.

I finished rebuilding the window track rollers and channel. I found the 3 rollers on the regulator assembly were in bad shape and replace them also. I will do the same on the other door. The window aligned a lot easier when everything is correct and new. I did it in about half the time as before when the old worn parts were in there.

It should be REALLY easy on the second one!!

Is there an easy way to get this roller out of the way for removal? There's also another obstruction forward of that fixed through the glass
