    Late 54 Hood release

I would like to remove and rechrome the dash bracket holding the hood release cables and knob. Has anyone had experiance with doing this?

John, Can you post a few pictures of what it looks like on here?

I haven't done one of those before but maybe we can give you a idea of a way to do it from photos.

Thanks for the reply Rich. I talked to a fellow 54 owner and he gave me a detailed proceedure on what I have to do. Kind of involved!! Cannot remove the knob as I had hoped. I guess I have to bite the bullet and tear it out.

I send mine out to Ron Jones - he can disassemble it - send it to your chromer - then reinstall it
He also recables the pull and choke cables
            He does very nice work....

Knobs - Send out to Fred Terry - he re-casts the knob and polishes the trim ring - does a great job

                          Re: Late 54 Hood release

I'm pretty sure I have the chrome piece already done at the plater if you need one. Seems to me it wasn't that hard to get apart. I cut the tabs off on the back with a Dremel tool.

Knobs can be removed too. At the San Diego National several years back there was a cable repair demonstration and the guy showed how to do it. I've used him ever since for cable repair. Much less expensive than Ron Jones and quick turnaround. But you can't go wrong with Ron either.

I must correct myself. Cutting the tabs off was a 55 Chevy overdrive cable disassembly procedure I've used. The Corvette hood pull differs. I took mine apart by drilling out the two spot welds.
