    1963 off road exhaust

Hello guys, I would like to know if it was possible to order an off road N-11 exhaust system for a 63 corvette. I have heard that it may not have been available at all in 63, and i heard that it was available in the later half of the year? If anyone can shed some light on this subject I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks and Happy New Year! Andy

You can certainly order it from Corvette Central. I have on my late 63 (may build).

They are not loud at all.

      Andy -

None are shown as built in 1963 in the Chevrolet production records.

The part numbers for the N-11 exhaust, GM #3845735, LH, and 3845736, RH, look like 1964 part numbers to me. So, I doubt that they would even have been available during the 1963 model year although it's possible they would have been available at the very tail end of the 1963 model year. That doesn't mean they were installed on any 1963's, though.

because the 63 header to intermediate pipe fit one another differently than the 64-67 header to intermediate, i don't believe the 64 part numbered pieces would fly on a 63. did we miss that on your tanker andy? mike

There is no mention of it in the '63 finger tip facts option list or the dealer showroom album or the AIM.

Years ago at the original Bloomington I was present with Marty Fowler when Dr. Vance Shappley purchased an early N-11 system for his ZO-6. And yes, it was offset for around the early tool cubby's. It was not new or NOS but it was original and rusty. It resides on his Sebring Silver/Red Interior Big Tank ZO-6 today. That was in one of the old barn's at the original Bloomington Fairgrounds. Either GM built that system or one real sharp exhaust shop built it for an early 63.

That's what I thought and the paper work I have from GM reflects that...Thanks

Mike; You did not miss that on my Z06 tanker. i just was wondering if any 63's could have been built with N11 exhaust on them. I just bought another 63 Z06 tanker that was ordered to race and came with Blackwall tires and radio delete, so i thought that maybe it could have come with off road mufflers as well? Maybe not? Thanks

Joe; Well now that most have said that they did not exist, you threw a wrench in the pot........I just love this detective work......Just trying to learn more about 63's and what was available, just like P48 KO wheels........Now it's is believed that 12 cars left the plant with KO wheels... The question is now which cars had them, maybe 12 Z06's? Who knows? Thanks

                        Joe,

Yes, I know there are no records BUT there are no records of many cars being built for execs, racing and the like.
The pipes I saw definately had the right mufflers, welds and oval shaped pipes.
It is the ONLY set I have ever seen or heard about. What caught our eye was the early design that went around the indents in the floorboard!
Yes, someone could have taken the available N-11 pipes and used the mufflers but making those pipes would have taken someone like Allen's to make them look that perfect. And I don't think there was anyone in the business of making exhausts for Corvettes at the time.
This is just a tale of what we saw and the three of us are experienced enough to uncover most fake crap! I think that exhaust is still on Dr. Shappley's 63 ZO-6.

How did you know that they were N-11 and not just a take-off early 1963 2-1/2" rear pipe/muffler assemblies?

                            Joe,

The N-11 pipes were unique as they were flattened on the top and bottom. I talked with Marty Fowler today and he says the N-11 is listed in the 63 options on showroom material. Marty Fowler is usually right when it comes to 63's! Lets face facts that if an exec such as Harley Earl wanted N-11 on his 63 blue/AC Corvette it had N-11!!!

I can't say, for sure, about 1963's. However, for 64+ C2's and C3's, I believe that all 2-1/2" rear pipes were flattened.
