Rear shock started to leak when removing

I have new KYB shocks on the rear of my '69 and one of them starting leaking fluid while I was removing it. Bad shock or did I possibly do something incorrect and cause an issue? It only leak a little and then stopped but does that matter, i.e. do I need to replace it regardless.

If it were me, I'd replace it. Once-upon-a-time I had an NOS GM shock leak just a little just before I was about to install it on the car. I did not use it.

Joe, is there anything I could be doing when manipulating the rear suspension that might be causing a shock to leak. I had two other new KYBs that leaked also - or these KYBs are junk perhaps?

I don't think there's anything you could be doing as part of normal installation that could be causing the leak. I don't know too much about KYB's as I've never used them.

Jack, I am pretty sure KYB'S have a lifetime warranty. There is nothing you could have done, the shock seal must have been damaged upon assembly.

I have experienced KYB shock fluid leak after extended time on jack stands with the rear suspension hanging in 'full rebound' position. Had this happen to three shocks over the years before learning my lesson. I still use KYBs, but now I position a 5/8" dia hex bolt under each trailing arm in the frame kick-up pocket before going to jack stand maintenance.

Yep, believe I must be having a similar issue as I'm on my third shock also. The first two I put on when I completely rebuilt the rear suspension and hadn't completed it before both were leaking. I returned them to Advanced Auto and exchanged them with no issue and that's what I'll do with this one also. My only gripe is that I paint them grey to more closely resemble originals so just more work that's all.
