    56 speedometer driven gear fitting

I need the driven gear fitting for my '56 manual transmission. I don't see this part listed in any of the aftermarket parts suppliers. My parts book shows the same number for a '56 3 speed as the 57-59 4 speed, 3708147. My tailshaft housing is 3737450 which is correct for a '57 3 speed but it has a H289 casting date. Are there any transmission rebuilders that might have a fitting that will work for this application. While this car is now a manual transmission, the rear axle ratio is a 3.55 which is correct for a PG and should require a 21 tooth solid red nylon gear. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The speedometer fitting you need is the GM #3708147. This fitting was actually used on many GM applications of the period. It should not be rare. Unfortunately, it was discontinued without supercession in 1977.

I'd contact Larry Fischer at D&L Tranmsissions (www.muncie4speed.net). If anyone can fix you up with one or tell you where to get one, it's him.

      Thank you Joe.

I'll contact D&L transmissions as you suggest.

Charles, I believe Pete makes these gears. Scott
