1958 C1 Rear bumper seal SCREWS?

I am having a hard time determining what kind of screws I need to use on the rubber rear bumper seal on my 58. Any advice?

I don't remember any screws. It goes over the flange from the outside.

Rear bumper seals are on outside of fiberglass and visible between rear bumper and trunk. No screws, held in by tight fit. (restoring my own 60)

'58 is quite different from '59-'60. Lots of one-year-only bits. I think he means these, but I believe those are rivets to hold the framework together. The cover is held on by screws. Maybe those?

Working on a 58 now. My understanding (and I may be incorrect) is that the inside trunk covers screw to the trunk from the top. There is no factory seal that I am aware of as shown in the Keen image that has been posted. I was planning on using the 3M black sealer or some Mortite between the panel and the trunk.

Somewhere I have some pictures to support my approach. If I can find them, I'll post them.

thanks everyone for the help but I was more referencing the rubber vertical seal that wraps around the "I" beam bracket. The part I purchases has two screw holes. It seems the group agrees the rubber seal is under neither the car up against the fiberglass in the truck BUT not on the inside truck portion. visible from both sides but the over lap is on the bottom not inside the truck. So this leads me back to the question screws or no screws with 3M seals.

                Eric,

Got some garage time today. I have the same rubber seals you are questioning. They are used on the earlier 58's (mine is a March car) as the AIM does not show these seals. The drawing revision in the AIM is after my cars build date so the pictures in there don't really apply (or help).

There are two holes in the rubber seal that make it look like they should secure to the body with screws or some sort of fastener. Looking at both sides of the body on my car I can see no evidence of there being holes for a fastener in the fiberglass. There is residue from where the original parts were sealed to the body. Most likely with the 3M strip sealer which is what I plan to use on my installation.

                Tom

Edit: Took a picture from the inside of the trunk as well as the cover that goes over the bumper mount and exhaust tube area. The cover in the catalog illustration shows a flange on the end which looks like it would provide a surface to the seal to screw onto. As you can see by the cover I have, there is no flange, it is a flat piece of fiberglass cut to fit the area.

                  No screws are used.
