    Aluminum differential carrier bolt torque?

Anyone know the torque specs for bolting the differential case onto the carrier for an aluminum carrier (1980 - 1982)?

I've looked in the AIM, and it assumes the differential assembly is complete, so no specs there. The shop manual gives me all kinds of torque settings, but unless I misread or misunderstood the language, I don't see specs for bolting the carrier to the case.

I don't want to over-torque it, since it's aluminum, and under-torque would seem to be a problem as well.

    Kenn,

I don't have a direct answer to your question, however, I believe the 1980-82 Dana 44 is similar to the C4 Dana 44. The attached image is from the 1996 shop manual and shows bolt sequence and torque values. This may be a starting point, but I would wait for someone that actually knows what they are doing to respond.

You're correct, it is a Dana 44. I would have over-torqued them...was thinking 45Nm in a star sequence with no other guidance. I'm pasting this into my shop manual.

      Thank you!

        Kenn,

While I think these torque values are in the ball park, you may want to wait until a knowledgeable me member responds.

The difficulty in making this comparison is that the bolts used for the 80-82 Dana 44 cover were different than the bolts used for the 84-96 Dana 44 cover. The 80-82 bolts were GM #14024363; the 84-96 were GM #14091419. It's possible, of course, that the torque for both bolts was the same but the fact that different bolts were used makes me wonder.
