I am having a hard time locating the proper brackets, I have bought from the catalog houses what has been catalogued as 340 brackets, and they look like the AIM they do bolt to the exhaust manifold bracket, the upper holes do not line up to mount the u shape bracket, i have an original 902 passenger exhaust manifold, the trapezoidal looking bracket bolts to it, the mounting bosses are 4 5/8" , the upper holes for the u shape bracket are 3 3/4" apart and smaller diameter. Is the trapezoidal bracket incorrect? Does anyone have originals to show me a pic of?

Re: Generator mounting brackets for 1962 340 hp
Which vendor are you referring to? I would call them and make sure they sent you the correct part. That plate is different for 250, 300 and 340, FI. The U shaped bracket also comes in several different types according to my catalogs. If it's any help the last 62 I did we got those parts from Paragon and they fit.- Top

Re: Generator mounting brackets for 1962 340 hp
I think the parts houses may be in error in some of their applications.....Paragon supplies most if not all of these brackets to the other vendors. I nearly always see Paragon labels underneath the vendor labels that I buy from.
The manifold support bracket is GM part# 3816162. Paragon supplies it. (Zip part# M-103)
Paragons link says it's 1962 all, Non-FI. Part# 522. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...ing-plate.aspx
My P&A Catalog data says it's for 1962 Exc Sp H/Per., FI.
Manifold support bracket 3755555 in the P&A Catalog is 58-61 all and 62 FI.
However, it says for 1962 "w/Sp H/Per., FI". It's a bit misleading. Are they meaning individually... "OR", or do they mean both... "AND". ???
If 340HP is considered Sp H/Per, maybe you need the 3755555 bracket. I don't have them handy, but IIRC the dimensions are in Noland's book.
Some other U-Bracket information may be helpful in the attachment below.(see next post as it's too big here in this one, I think) See Addendum A. I don't list the bracket for the 327 though, as my document was for the 283ci engine. My data says for the 1962 Exc Sp H/Per., FI it is 3725671, 1 7/16 H x 7" OAL. It doesn't show the hole spacing. I cannot seem to find that U-Bracket in reproduction from any supplier. Ref:http://www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=66120
These 2 pages have good references to the generators and brackets applications.

Re: Generator mounting brackets for 1962 340 hp
There's an article in the Restorer already in the late 1970s that I wrote on generators that profiles the differences in the mounting plates. Rich, outstanding file that you referenced. Well done! I've been trying for 36 years to document an original 62 with a double-groove pulley system. Although it is listed in the AIM late in the model year, I've not found any, even on late production, high HP original-owner cars. I firmly believe they didn't ever make production, even though all the vendors sell them.- Top

So I found a few photos of my now-gone early '62 250HP. The generator had "REBUILT" stamped in it, but has indications it was a 1102174. However I'm not sure if the drive-end frame should have the ribs or not. I wouldn't think so. I think the commutator-end frame is correct though.

These show the odd shaped manifold plate and the U-bracket. I confirmed that neither Paragon nor anyone else I've researched has this U-bracket in reproduction. Zip's present catalog states this for a listing for.....M-2748 1962 Generator Mount Bracket w/o FI ........Call
Dino, The bracket below has a definite offset of the holes where it mounts to the plate. Your top bracket in your photo.........Does it line up with the plate upper holes?

Tough to find. I looked hard for a long time. The cast iron end frames are unique as you probably know and use solid mounts. Here are a few photos of a friends 1102268 generator. Notice on the drive-end frame there are 2 nubs, at the ~2:00 and ~8:00 positions.(as viewed when installed). The commutator-end frame is also cast iron, but a unique pair of openings for cooling, and the gits cap on top along with the unique bearing endcap. The pulley is a no-offset 4" deep groove type. The end frame spacing to shaft center is 3 1/2". Note that the tach drive Corvette generators are 3 1/4" by design.

John Pirkle Jr may have a restored 1102268, but likely quite expensive as they're rare as you know.
Just did a search.....Here is a 2268 commutator end frame on ebay....

And here is what's advertised as a 1102173 generator. This was the 1st design for '61. The 2nd design was the 1102268.

I'll have to check my notes but the above unit looks like a 2268 to me.

Re: Generator mounting brackets for 1962 340 hp
Rich,
The ribs are correct only for the 62 2174 front plate. As you know, they are incorrect for 57-61 2043 plates. Those are the 3 1/4" ones, while the 2174 uses the 3 1/2".- Top

Re: Generator mounting brackets for 1962 340 hp
Thanks for clarifying that Mike. I finally made it out to the shop. More info for the future.
I found my notes, and I found a 3725671 U-Bracket buried in some generator parts I had here.
First, the 3725671 U-Bracket. I'm not sure but I think it came on a passenger car generator I had here. That Parts listing shows so many cars and trucks used it, so there were millions made.

Here are my notes for the 2 generators used in '62.

What I don't have is detailed info about the 1102173 generator.
