    1962 clutch fork wobble

I am assembling the z bar and clutch fork levers and things just don't feel right.....the clutch fork has the spring clip over the ball stud, but it appears sprung, and loose....I have never assembled a 62 fork and clutch. If I depress the z bar it seats and depresses the fingers, but if I don't lift up on the arm it will bind......is the easy answer to replace the fork, or am I missing something , I need to finish this before putting on the exhaust....your help and ideas would be appreciated.
