Late 1968 Gas door assemblies

A question has come up about late 1968 gas door assemblies. As I understand it, late 1968 gas door lids (after May of 68) "could" originally have an emblem attached with acorn nuts like the 69 and later doors.

So, there is a possibility of an original 68 gas door lid with a riveted hinge, but the crossed flags emblem attached with acorn nuts.

Is this correct? Given the failure rate of those rivets, it would not surprise me, but this is not something I had heard before.

Yes this is correct. The info on this subject can be found in the most recent '68 / '69 TJM.

My 68 was built on July 19. It has rivets for the hinge and the emblem.

I remember judging a July 68 car that had rivets for the hinge and the emblem.

Besides what the JM says, who as actually seen a 68 with a screw on hinge of acorn nut emblem?

This was all news to me, and I have been looking at 68 gas door assemblies for over 20 years.
