    Ignition Shield

Wanted: show quality original ignition shield (NOS or slightly used) for 78. This is the black plastic type. I have the cable ties. The eBay stuff doesn't cut it. Any leads appreciated.

    David,
I think the part you're looking for is #14037640. If so Doc Rebuild's web site shows it as their #9663312. Don't know if they actually still have it, you would have to call them.

GM #14037640 was the 1982 distributor shield which became SERVICE for 1978-81. The original shield for 1978 was GM #472811 and it was used for that year only. For 1979-81 shield GM #14017719 was used. It became SERVICE for 1978 when the 472811 was discontinued in July, 1980. The 1982 shield, GM #14037640, became the SERVICE shield for 1978-81 when the 14017719 was discontinued in March, 1982. The 14037640 was discontinued without supercession in September, 2000.

So, what are the differences between the aforementioned 3 shields? That I don't know.

Thanks for the replies. Docs catalog shows #9663312 but can't find on his website so its probably gone. i will call. Joe's history is interesting. Didn't realize original was so short lived. The shield used as service thru 2000 only had one tail on the pas side in lieu of tails on both sides dropping down along the firewall.
