    dated bonding strips

I had heard that original bonding strips were sometimes dated. It made my day to find my lower right rear fender bonding strip and horizontal tail strip ink stamped May 10 1965 on my June 11 built convertible. My lower left rear strip is undated but still shows the tiny MFG embossed logo. (or is it MFC?)

thanks doc. You get my age, you forget things. I knew that before I forgot it.

      Hi Don.
      NICE!
When I see date stamps like the one in your picture I'm always reminded of the stamp the librarian used when we'd check books out to take home!
      Regards,

Every body panel & bonding strip on my May 12 built St louis car had an ink stamp date including the many parts that make up the cowl panels and the under side of the hood and rear body panels .

yes, Alan, it sure does appear to be the very same ink stamp. Do people still go to libraries and check out books?

            Alan and Don,

I think a more telling questions is does anyone even read books anymore?? Everything, it seems, is electronic anymore.

                thanks for adding that Joe,
                I like it.
that's an early dated piece for a late June built convertible? Would that have been a Smith body?

                Joe,
AOS bodies were constructed several weeks earlier (and will display a Trim tag with earlier body date imprint) than StL bodies were for a given assembly date. If your 21736 body was built in StL, likely it would bear bonding strips later than mine, ie mid to late May, rather than March.

                    Re: dated bonding strips

Bought that car for parts. Was originally a big block as evidenced by the rear sway bar and thicker front swaybar. big block accelerator rod and original driver side fender was drilled for the 396 tags. Not up on AO Smith differences but it also had undercar exhaust. No engine or trans or trim tag that I recall. When wrecked it had a small block. I may have some pics of the firewall and frame somewhere. Think the tach was a low hsp. Still have the dash somewhere.

I just put the body to my 65 on a rotisserie and found a dated bonding strip I will try to post a picture in a few days.

                        Re: dated bonding strips

I just found a faint date on my back left vertical strip that throws my whole theory about the timeliness of the bonding strips to the body build date out the window. This one appears to say APR 26 1964. This one is a good year older than my car's build date.
