    5468882 vs 5463160

    Hello.

I have some questions about the brake pads to my -67 with J56 brake options.
Is there any difference between 5468882 and 5463160?
    Thickness, color or markings.?
Sometimes there is # 5468882 for sale on Ebay.
They are usually marked Delco 903-FF and be a little reddish sometimes it is also marked with # 5468882
What I do know is that # 5463160 is accurate to my front brakes and # 5452515 is correct to the rear brakes.

Does anybody have photos and/or more information about # 5463160 and # 5452515 J56 brake pads?

    Have a great day

    Regards
    Orjan

The original front brake pads for 1967 Corvettes with J-56 were the GM #5463160. These were discontinued from SERVICE in December, 1968 and replaced by the 5468882. The latter part number was used in PRODUCTION for 1968-75 Corvettes with J-56. My vague recollection is that the 5463160 might have been riveted linings and/or with a steel backing plate but I'm not sure. The 5468882 are definitely bonded linings with an Inconel backing plate. The 5468882 were discontinued without supercession in 1987.

The GM #5452515 were the only rear brake pads ever available for 1967-75 Corvettes with J-56. They were bonded on a steel backing plate. They were discontinued without supercession in 1984.

Here's 2 pics of eBay J56 rears, 5452515. Notice the center slot is about half the width of J56 fronts. both sellers claim orange ink stamp 5452510 with (903FF) material. The boxes had part #s 5452515 but were labeled "axle set, brake shoe & lining kit". Was this because cotter pins were included in a small envelope ?

      5452515 J56 rears $150 , then $140 no bids 5452510 orange ink stamp.jpg.NOS J56 rear pads 5452510_903FF $338.JPG

I strongly suspect that the 5452510 is the part number for either the friction material component of the pad or, most likely, the part number for the complete pad assembly (friction material + backing plate). The 5452515 is the part number for the pad package ( 4 pads + cotter pins) which is the only way the pads were available in SERVICE. Technically, part number 5452515 would not have been a PRODUCTION part number since the components of the package would, almost certainly, have been supplied to PRODUCTION as individual pieces. Nevertheless, the components of the package would have been the same as those used in PRODUCTION.

Orjan --- as far as I know, yes. But I've probably never seen the real early sets installed in the C2 era. Here's the 2 front sets I have.
