    1960 steel wheels and Hubcaps

I have been slowly purchasing or rebuilding everything on my 60 270 HP project. The car overall was original paint with a few things missing since 1968 when the second owner purchased the car. I spoke to the second owner spring of this year to see if by chance he had the original wheels and rear shocks that were on the car. He explained he purchased the car at the age of 18 with the Cragers and A/C delco Air shocks and at that time he didn't ask or even want the original steel wheels.

I have been looking for a nice set of original steel wheels and Hubcaps that are original for the car and have found many overpriced pitted wheels or dented hubcaps. Our the reproductions poor quality and incorrect as a last resort. Or should I just keep the hunt up?

Re: 1960 steel wheels and Hubcaps

There was only one set of steel wheels and hubcaps that were "original" to your car and they are long gone. Nevertheless, you should be able to find exact wheels and hubcaps, probably originals to someone else's 1960 or similar vintage. There is no difference between full size hubcaps for a 1960 and those for a 1959, 1961 and/or 1962.

Good luck in the hunt - these items are out there, somewhere.

Jeff, I have one 15x5 dog bone welded wheel that has been sandblasted and powder coated black. PM me if applicable to your car.

I have several nice 15x5 dog bone welded wheels. Let me know if you need pictures. I probably have a decent set of caps as well

There are still hub caps out there in good shape you just have to keep looking. You can keep an eye on ebay as I have seen some pretty nice looking ones relatively cheap at times. I picked up a nice set for my 58 there and I paid a reasonable price. You can always buy several and pick the ones you like then put the others back up for auction. You can also post a WTB on the CF. The repops have a different tint to the steel.

          Good luck hunting.

1960 Corvettes did not use "dog bone" wheels. Correct wheels are 5" welded. The same applies to 1961 and 1962.

Put up a photo of the Cragers - someone might want to trade.
