    TI Distributor "check up"

Hi Folks, My friend (great wrench) came over tonight and we removed the distributor to give it a look see. My car has 19k original miles on it, but stored a long time. He said everything looked very good and tight. We took out the tach drive and it had no wear.
So he recommended I get some brake cleaner and clean out the tach drive area. Then apply some grease and reinstall it.
My question is what else should I be doing and what grease, oil should I use? Thanks in advance,
    Ray

    Re: TI Distributor "check up"

The basic overhaul procedure for a TI distributor is essentially the same as a single point... disassemble, clean and inspect. The step-by-step procedure is in the appropriate service or overhaul manual. Prior to disassembly, measure end play and procure shims as necessary to shim it up to spec.

Two years ago this month I started a thread with a detailed review of a distributor overhaul I did for a local chapter member that you should find useful. It should be easy to find in the archives. (I don't start many threads.)

Be sure to reinstall the gear with the dimple pointing the same direction as the rotor tip. (GM left that important detail out of the manuals.)
