The Dec/Jan70 issue of Corvette News has a picture of the 1953 plates that were reported to CN in a search. Does anyone out there have a READABLE copy of that picture (page 11) or a listing of the VINs that were reported to CN? If so, how could I get a copy? Thanks.

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
Hi Loren,
I have a mint copy of that issue. The picture you're talking about is on page 11. It is a picture of a wooden plaque entitled "1953 Corvette Honor Roll." Mounted on the plaque under the title are 73 small metal plates. Each plate begins with "One of Three Hundred" in script on the top line. The next line is the VIN. The third line is the name of the owner(s). The final line has "Corvette News" on the right. The caption says "The 1953 Corvette Honor Roll, with names and serial numbers of all 73 entries. Each engraved plate is an exact duplicate of the fascia plaques awarded to contestants. The Honor Roll hangs proudly in Chevrolet's Central Office in Detroit." The names and VINs in the photo are barely readable; some are not readable, some are. I suspect that if I scanned the image, it would be even more difficult to read, but I'm willing to do that and email it to you.Pete

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
Actually, I think our best bet would be for me to work from the original magazine page with a magnifying glass and a good light. I know I could come up with much, but not all of the data. Does anyone know if the plaque still hangs at "Chevrolet's Central Office in Detroit"?Pete

I have a copy as well. A 300 dpi scan is attached. However, even in my original copy, I cannot read ANY of the plaques with the naked eye. With a lighted magnifying glass I can barely read a few of the plaques. There is no listing in that edition of the cars that are included on the plaque.

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
Besides some of the plaques being just barely readable in my copy, the text of the article and the captions of the pictures do contain a handful of names and VINs. I'll see how much of a list I can transcribe from the photo and will report back later.Pete

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
Peter, I have a copy also, but it is NOT mint - and even with a magnifying glass, concealment wins. Would doubling the size help? The magnifying class only served to show that they were apparently entered in the order reported (except for 003) and not in numerical order. If we can somehow figure it out and print it here, maybe 15 or 20 of us will have the information. Important, because my dregs of memory seem to recall that the placque itself is missing- Top

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
The Corvette Action Center has a listing of various 1953 Corvettes. In the profile of many it says "Listed on 'The 1953 Corvette Honor Roll' " so one would hope they used the original list to determine this.
Here is a previous thread with a picture of an owner plate:

Don't know why you fellas don't make it easy on yourselves and just reference the great article by Al Hill in the Spring 2005 issue of the Restorer, on the 1953 Corvette Honor Roll. He answers all your questions and then some.

Thanks, Vinnie. That article saves a lot of time. I was making good progress, but no need to continue deciphering the photo as it has all been done.Pete

Re: 1953 Corvettes - Corvette News
What has always puzzled me on the Honor Role of "Real McCoys" is the absence of our 53 #286. This was a known car in 1969/70. It was in fact owned by Ed Thiebaud. He and Noland found it in a shed in Oakland Ca. It was even shown in the 1972 Corvette News article on Ed's collection. I wonder why Ed did not submit it? Ed sold the car in 1971 to the family we bought it from.- Top
