Are you cleaning the inside or outside?

Personally, if it were me with an original 63, I don't think I ever considered cleaning the outside of my oil pressure line, but I have had the thought of some day cleaning the inside. In my thought process, I have considered installing a new line, at which time, I'd have to pass it through the firewall and may pick up some debris in the process.

A fine steel wool on the outside and flush denatured alcohol thru the inside. Blow out with air.

I was asking about the outside, but I am glad it was mentioned about the inside also.
          I got my answer...thanks.

I don't know if you have the oil line off the car, but if you do and you remove the tarnish with steel wool, you can spray a light coat of clear lacquer over it to prevent tarnish. The hobby stores sell small cans of lacquer. If it is on the car, not an easy way to seal it.

I've had success using Saran Wrap and tin foil to mask stuff in an engine compartment when I wanted to paint something in there. Those two materials conform nicely and stay put. I'd be afraid to leave Saran Wrap on a painted surface for a long time. But I believe it's OK for a few minutes.
