Sounds like an item to add to the judging sheets. The corollary to not only must it function like original, it must look like original. Not only must it look original, it must function as original. An easy check too. Lift the air cleaner lid while it's running and hold a piece of paper over the suction port.

Should be some credit to the guys that go the distance ($)and have working AIR systems.

I know this thread has pretty much ended, but, you can still have the pump pumping and remove the piston from the diverter valve and just have the air run out the muffler of the diverter valve.
But if you are going to that extreme, why note just have the system run the way it is supposed to.

Ultimately, Steve has it correct. Some credit should be given to the guys that go the distance and have the A.I.R. system working the way it should. But then again, the NCRS is really here not pick us apart. It is a hobby. That is why they really do not care if a part is original as long as it looks close. Unless there are numbers on it.

I have learned that breaking down point into so many fragments to differentiate if an A.I.R. system is working correctly of partially is just to difficult. As it is on say: original valve covers versus reproductions that look very similar but are different. There is just not enough points to break things like that down.
