Re: 1976 Rolling Model Change
Hi Tom. Ours is a 46000 sequence car, I have not researched the date of manufacture. I believe the last one made was 46558. One of the biggest mysteries about the car is whether or not it should have had an AIR pump for the emissions system. When we presented it for Bow Tie consideration at Novi in 2008 there was a great deal of discussion and disagreement among the judges and I was initially told I was going to be penalized because it lacked the AIR pump that was standard equipment for 1976. I asked for clarafication since I knew I took delivery of the car new from the dealer and it was not on the vehicle. After Roy Sinor got involved it was decided that there may have been some 1976 cars that did not have it. As I recall one of the deciding factors was that they queried some of the aftermarket vendors at the event and they had parts listing for several engine components that were different in 1976 depending on whether the car had the AIR pump or not. Ultimately they did not deduct any points for the missing pump. I have never been able to explain why it is only on some cars and am hoping that Jim's research may shed some light as to whether or not this may have been a rolling change. Congratulations on only 9,000 miles, I don't think there are many 76's out there with mileage that low.
