Don,,,, given that the compressor sat for what appears to be n extended time, and Freon is so expensive, would definitely suggest to have the core restored, as most likely the seals and O rings are gone. I had mine done at the vintage air conditioning parts restoration and installation company located in Texas. I can't remember their name, but I believe they have a good reputation among others here. They did mine 7-8 yrs ago and I had them preserve the label and leave the rest of the exterior as it was. They did a hand cleaning of the exterior giving it a really nice "survivor" quality look that it is. Still works great and puts out low 40's degrees. (I retained the use of R12) Very appreciated when having my black interior in the summer!!
