    1967 Corvette Rearend Differential Cover

    Hi All,

What is the correct part number for a 67 rearend cover? I know they are dated as well. How do you distinguish a 1967 date vs a 1977 date?

    Thanks,
    Dave

The rear end cover on my March 67 car was not dated. I don't remember the casting number, but I will look.

I generally don't see cast dates on the cover of '67's.

The cover is cast #3871375, but it appears upside down, as it's located on the edge of the casting, where it bolts to the X-member.

IMO, dates on rear covers (on edge near filler plug, as shown in pic) did not start until calendar 1968. There has been one reported case, on this forum, of the "303" cover ('63 '64, early '65) being dated. Since the "375" casting # was used to the mid-70s or later, the last digit of "6" probably refers to 1976.

Thanks for the clarification of the cast dating. So the one above is certainly not '66 then. It was a file photo of a early Nov car from a few years ago. My error. I edited the post. Thanks.

I have a very late March car here. Yup, no cast date. This is what's on this one. What is the casting clock designation?

The 3871375 cover was used in PRODUCTION through the 1977 model year. I do not think it was even produced for SERVICE for very long after that time because it was replaced for 63-77 SERVICE by the 78-79 cover, casting #464910, in July, 1981.
