65 front sway bar finish

Im working on my 65 BB front sway bar . I know about the forging color but what about the black "mitted" finish . I can see where the runs were . I looks like the top and front were blacked out but only on the center section not the ends . Also I dont think it was put on with a mitt or the runs would be smears ? Any Ideas .

Bill, whether it's "correct" or not - I took a new sponge from the kitchen, cut it into a narrow piece and dipped it into a can of black paint. I squeezed out some (so it didn't excessively drip all over the place) and mitted the top of my sway bar. I only applied pressure from the top of the sway bar - causing the runs in the paint. I think it came really nice looking - and I have received compliments on it from the judges at Kissimmee, MCACN, BG, etc... ARA.

Definitely not mitted. I bought from Ace Hardware some plastic craft syringes and used Quanta chassis black paint and dripped it on the top of the sway bar out to where it is attached to the frame. Got nice comments from the team judges back in July on my '65 396 chassis. I've attached pictures of the front sway bar of a '65 396 car that is a 26,xxx mile Duntov/Bowtie car that I used as research. These pictures were taken at the NCRS Nat'l Convention in 2008.
