    Engine Start- Judging question

    Hi,
I have a doubt regarding the evaluation process in the area of mechanics. Who should
be the one to start the engine, the judge or the owner?

Luis, the engine is started during the Operations Section. The Owner should be the only person to start the car. The Judge should not start the car. The Owner may ask for guidance with the starting process. The Owner may also ask someone else to start the car. An example, I did the Operations Check on a 1954, the Owner was 6'5" and could not fit in the car. He had someone else do the Ops. Check. A Judge may only touch items with the Owners permission.

was that 6'5" inch fella named Chris? If so, he's a great guy. Took my Maroon 67 to the MCACN and met him there and have been friends with him since. Wonderful family too. His buddy Ron, well.....let's say questionable morals....LOL....Only kidding...

Luis, as Harry said - the owner or an owner designee should be the only one to start your car. The owner also should be the ONLY one to take off any parts of your car during the judging process - like the air cleaner assembly/lid, spare tire, etc. We are consistently reminded as judges to not touch any part of the car without permission and to not remove parts during judging. Perfect example was last month. I was judging at the FL Chapter meet. I asked the owner of a 435 car to remove his air cleaner assembly. He replied "you know what you're doing, you can do it". I said no, and kindly asked him to remove. Sure enough, he dropped the wing nut. Thank goodness it did NOT go into the carbs, but he spent an hour looking for it. No judge wants that kind of responsibility....ARA
