    1963 heater inspection decals

Got a pair of small decals (309D) that go on the blower motor and fiberglass housing - inside I think. Any advice on exact location of these inspection stickers appreciated.

Any where on the blower motor.....don't know I've seen one on the blower motor housing. Another sticker is found on the inside heater box, have observed a sticker on top and on the backside. Here's where the stickers were found on my '66 blower and heater box.

Thanks Michael - I'm going to assume no difference for '63.

        Kent,

You should be assuming a lot of difference. For one the blower motor is covered in a tar like material.
Now what side of that do you want to put the sticker on. The inside or the outside.
        Good luck,

        JR

I can confirm the inspection stickers on my heater core. My car is May 63 build. I can see if I took some specific pics. I recall tow on the box inside the cab.

            Joe,

I found no signs of any type of tar material on the blower motor (and housing) of my December '62 built Coupe.

Check out some survivor cars and most have that sealant around the mounting screw area also. Must be to seal the air leaks.

Of the five '63's I've owned (4 SWC and the convertible I'm working on now) three have had the covering mentioned by Joe. This one does not. I think the motors have a unique to '63 electrical connection - maybe the non-tar ones are replacements? Anyway, Paragon's (and others) description of the decals say the motor one goes on the flange and the other on the inside fiberglass box so guess that's what I'm going to do. Don, I would appreciate your looking at yours and maybe posting pics if possible. Thanks for all the input.

                  Kent,

I have also owned and restored 4 Coupes and have 1 Convertible Restorod. As you know several things on the 63 Corvettes were borrowed from the passenger car. The blower motor was one of those things. If you can find a chevy passenger car you will find the motor has the tar like coating and the unique connection that was only found on 63 Corvettes. 64 and up had the later motor as shown in the pics earlier. None of my 63 Corvettes had a sticker on any part of the heater box. Don't mean some didn't as all of my 63's were well worn and should not be used as as a guide for any restorer. Unfortunately most are in that category.

Finally got a pic for you. This is a early May build SWC. You can see inspection sticker in picture.

Thanks Don - mine's an April 2 car so close enough!

Let me add clarity to my comment. When purchased the car had not been restored and was in as found condition. The blower motor had no 'tar like' sealant on it however the blower housing where sealed to the firewall did. Very sloppily done as one would expect.

I think I've heard those referred to as "leakers" - failed a water test and had some sealant applied liberally around the box.
