Re: Turquoise Dash Pads and Interiors anyone?

Long overdue update. Interior finished some time ago, along with the whole car, minus the engine. My friend Mike owns it and is a motor head. He is rebuilding it for installation back into the car soon. He took ill a while ago and wasn't able to play mechanic but is feeling much better.

Here are a few photos of the (semi)finished product. Once the engine and transmission are in it's ready to move under it's own power. Today my wife played tow truck operator in my pickup and we used a tow strap to bring it out back in my fields. I stayed the helm in the '59 dodging turtles, sand cranes and alligators.

Al Knoch interiors called last week and asked for permission to use a selection of photos for their 2016 calendar. Very nice request. I have to take more pictures tomorrow as the light was near dusk and I had my camera settings wrong. Because they worked so hard for us to get the colors right we couldn't refuse. Very nice testament to have it in a calendar. I don't know what month yet. I'm going to suggest Mike's birthday month to them as that would be a nice touch. Mike bought the car in 1964. It has been apart for the last 40+ years. He'll be driving his baby again very soon.

Thanks Bob. Al Knoch Interiors supplied the entire interior package.

They went the extra mile to entirely rework the color using original samples given to me from members along with some discovered original samples they had in their attic. We waited for them to get all new vinyls from their supplier. Months of waiting but was worth it.

Richard The kit I was talking about was the door panel mount repair kit. I see that corvette central & zip sells it. Also who did the seatbelts? Looks great in the sunlight.

Yes most vendors have that panel screw repair kit. Seat belts are nice period replacements that most vendors sell as well. Zip Products supplied the repair kit as well as the seat belts.

I have a set of red belts in my '59 also from Zip.

Re: Turquoise Dash Pads and Interiors anyone?

                Hi Rich.

Quick question...I thought I read somewhere that the interior color may be a different turquoise shade than the exterior crown sapphire poly color.

Can you please clarify if the gauge cluster, kick panels, package tray are the same color as the crown sapphire poly (exterior color) or are they a different shades of turquoise? If different, can you please share the turquoise color code and where to order.

Also, I know the glove box is the same as the crown sapphire poly, would the radio/heater console (center console) also be crown sapphire poly?

                Thanks for your help.

                Jill, 59140

P.S. I ordered the crown sapphire poly from TCP Global.

I repaired, primed, and painted the fiberglass panels recently along with the cluster. The turquoise lacquer was a very good match to original color.

Hi Jill, You are asking good questions. I went through the same confusion, and will share what I learned. I had to start over but this is what I went through and never wrote down. Here it is now for reference....

                  Quick Q's & A's.....

"...the interior color may be a different turquoise shade than the exterior crown sapphire poly color."
Quick answer? Yes, they are different. You need Turquoise for the Interior.

"...Is the radio/heater console (center console) also be crown sapphire poly?
Quick answer? No. Turquoise. Reasons below.

"...If different, can you please share the turquoise color code and where to order."
Dupont 93145 or Ditzler DAL12067 From TCPGlobal also. That's who I always use. There are others too, like Towers but I haven't tried them.

Our NCRS Pocket Spec Guide Pgs 181/182 for 1959 shows:

                  Body - Crown Sapphire(CS) => Dupont 2930-L , Ditzler DDL12001
                  Trim - Turquoise Metallic(TM) => Dupont 93145 , Ditzler DAL12067

Spec Guide Pg 134 (Ext & Int Colors), shows Turquoise(paint and soft/hard goods) usage for these locations:

                  -Interior Trim
-Interior of Trunk(Note this changed to Body Color later in the model year)
                  -Upper Instrument Panel(Cluster)
                  -Lower Instrument Panel(Radio/Heater Center Console)
-Steering Column(Upper section from wheel hub to under dash of cluster)
                  -Direction Signal Housing
                  -Steering Wheel Hub
-Plastic Sidewall Panel, (IMO, Sidewall = Door Panel) the 1958 Door Panel upper painted area, not applicable to 1959 door panels.
-Package tray, not mentioned likely due to not being equipped in 1958 models when this list was likely generated.
(Note: including riveted L-Brackets, rivets. IIRC the loose L-bracket to attach tray to side panel got no paint)
                  -L/R Cowl Side Kick Panels
                  -Heater Cover
(Note that these items are not mentioned in the above Spec Guide Column list, but must also be painted (interior color) Turquoise)
                  -Speaker Screen
                  -Two Defroster Bezels

                  Soft/Hard Goods:
                  -Steering Wheel
                  -Seats
                  -Dash Pad
                  -Door Panels
                  -Arm Rests
                  -Windlace(s)
                  -Trunk Mat

                  Rear Compartment:
                  -Trim Board(Trunk Divider Board) Painted

Both the Dupont and Ditzler codes are different between the CS and TM. Since the Exterior Crown Sapphire uses a Turquoise(mandatory) interior color, Dupont 93145 OR Ditzler DAL12067 is the proper choice for your Turquoise interior paint. This is different than the Exterior Crown Sapphire codes.

Below are the TCPGlobal Ditzler sample sheets for reference for the 1959 Chevrolet, with separate "Corvette" Interior data.

However....... above on pg 5 of the TCPG data, it shows TM Interior color for Corvette is (Dupont?)92945, NOT 93145. So I recommend you contact TCP Global to clarify that oddity. I think I did then but forgot what they told me. It may be that code included a flattening agent. Interior paint was originally "unbuffed" lacquer, so maybe this code adjusted it a little flatter. I chose the Dupont 93145 / Ditzler DAL12067 code and the paint was a perfect match to the original painted panels before I removed the original paint.

I will definitely be ordering my turquoise tomorrow with TCP Global because I'm very close to applying paint (finally).

Hopefully our paths will cross and we'll get to meet in person one day...

You're welcome Jill. I hope I got it all right......

It looks like I'm going to the Nationals in Texas with a friend with his '67 and 4 of his customers cars this year, so if you go maybe we can talk Turquoise.
