    NOS 59-61 Oil Cap

    Hi all,

I have an NOS 1959-61 oil cap, but the problem is that it is spotted. I'm wondering if there is any non-destructive way to remove these spots?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Those spots are a form of corrosion. You can remove them chemically but they'll probably return unless you seal the cap with some sort of clear coating or paint. Evap-O-Rust might clean the corrosion without otherwise changing the natural finish.

Try "Rub - N - Buff" Available from Michaels or most other craft stores. You will be surprised at what it can do

Bob, the plating appears to be missing, Likely moisture. I not sure that polishing will help, I think a very light coating of dull silver spray paint may help, Most of the hardware stores or Home depot, Lowes may have.

          Bob,
That appears to be an original non FI cap; follow Jimmy's suggestion...I would not paint it, clean it and go with it.
