    1967 Wonderbar Radio Repair

I have a 1967 AM/FM radio. The light bulb has recently burnt out. Once I remove the radio is it a simple process to replace the light bulb or do I need to send it out to get repaired? I already have a complete set of interior lights and the instructions for the radio replacement bulb shows #1816. If this is not something that can be done at home can anyone recommend someone?

    Thank you
    Alex

Alex, I have never heard of a '67 wonderbar radio. If you have a stock '67 AM/FM radio you do not need to remove it to fix the light. You can access it by removing the console side panel. It will be a metal bracket with a wire going into the side of the radio. The metal bracket (the wire goes into) simply slides out. I think it is on the driver's side but I'm not 100% sure of that. Good luck, Don H.

If it helps, here is a picture that shows the light assembly, and yes it is on the driver side of the radio.

Do I just remove the wire to access the bulb or remove the entire metal bracket? Thank you for the great picture.

I forgot to ask what the bulb number is. I have been told it's either 1816 or 1893.

Just a warning, the insulation on that wire going to the bulb might be very brittle especially near the bulb where it gets hot. Try to minimize flexing as much as possible.

does the bulb light up when you pull out the headlight switch and the radio is turned off, only when the radio is on and the headlight switch is pulled out, anytime the radio is on???

It does not come on at all. I have been told that it may be the on/off switch instead of the light bulb.

I'm trying to figure out if mine is correct. the light on my radio only comes on "if" the radio is turned on and the headlight pull switch is out to park lights or headlights position. At one time I thought the light should work at any time the headlight pull was out irregardless of if the radio was turned on or not, what is the answer???

At this point I'm really not 100% sure. Once I fix mine I will let you know.

Do not pull on the wire. If you look closely the bulb housing has a tab that clips to the radio housing. Once you get good access to the driver side of the radio you can see how it attached. Just grasp the bulb housing and tab and pull. It slides out at an angle not straight away from the radio housing.

Check in your owners manual, all the lamps are listed there. I don't have mine handy, its in the car.
