    62 engine install question

I have a friend that is installing a 350 cu in.(4 speed.) in his 62 car and was wondering which flywheel to install, Is the 16x tooth or the 15x tooth used? He has a 57 cast iron bell housing, which is what was in the car at some point. this car was a basket case no engine installed when he brought the car. and If any other comments on install let me know, Just what to be prepared when I start the job. Thanks much, Ed

Just a few other details, cast iron manifold with a WCFB carb. and 63 exh. manifolds 2", Water pump I think is a 608???

    Edward-----

All C1 Corvettes were originally equipped with a 14", 168 tooth flywheel. Virtually all Corvettes originally equipped with a 350 cid engine (i.e. 1969-81) were originally equipped with a 14", 168 tooth flywheel. That's what I recommend for your friend's car.

      Edward -

If he plans to use the cast iron bellhousing with the provisions to attach the clutch cross-shaft bracket, it takes the horizontally-bolted starter that's bellhousing-mounted and only works with a 14" 168-tooth flywheel. If he wants to use a later (1963-up) aluminum bellhousing, he'll need a later vertically-bolted block-mounted starter, 12-3/4" 153-tooth flywheel, and will have to fabricate a mounting for the engine side of the clutch cross-shaft. He could also use a later 444 or 621 bellhousing and a 14" 168-tooth flywheel if that's what he prefers, but that would also require fabrication of a clutch cross shaft mounting.
