Started ripping into my 67 roadster the other day, been checking everything I run across for originality , and after checking the judging guide, it appears that the car has the master cylinder from a power brake car, without the booster . I can't imagine someone removing the booster if the car came with power brakes, but the brake line does seem to be bent back as if the master cylinder could have been forward a bit. I would love to put power bakes back in if it had them , here is a pic, maybe someone will notice something that I don't .

In '67, manual and power brake cars both used the same master cylinder (casting #5455509 with "DC" stamped in the little machined circle at the front); yours is casting #5480346, which was only used in '67 with RPO J56 Heavy-Duty brakes and a power booster, with "PG" stamped in the little machined circle at the front. That same casting was used for some later C3 master cylinders - what's stamped in the circle at the front on yours?- Top

Re: 1967 brake booster
I can't make out what's stamped in the little circle at the front, but at any rate the existing master cylinder isn't correct for the 1967 application (either manual or power); I'd guess it's a later Service replacement. It should be a 5455509 casting with "DC" stamped at the front.- Top

Re: 1967 brake booster
John, I think the master cylinder is correct for J56 brakes , it does have the PG stamped in the semi circle, what else would signify J56? Didn't they have a dual pin calliper or something, I will have to check into it more- Top

Re: 1967 brake booster
If it has "PG" stamped on it, it's a J-56 master cylinder, but it must have come from another car, as J-56 also included J50 power booster and the separate Kelsey-Hayes adjustable rear proportioning valve, bracket, and plumbing, in addition to the dual-pin front calipers, Inconel-backed reinforced brake pads, and forged stiffeners at the lower caliper bracket. See the J-56 section in your Assembly Manual.
