    Re: C2 vented gas cap

A little off subject, but in mentioning the 63 only vented caps (with clear hole), it brings to mind another seldom known or discussed 63 only fuel vapor venting feature; the 3461s AFB carburetor used on 63's only has vapor vent holes above the throttle plates on both the primaries and secondaries. I'd love to know if the 62 L-76 AFB has a similar feature, but no one has ever mentioned it.

I plugged the vapor vents on my 3461s as part of my program to reduce the gas stink in my attached garage - same main reason I went to the 708 dual valve gas cap, noted in previous posts.

I can't believe it lasted this long. They still have the 3994339 cap , so I ordered it . Thanks for the correct Part #

The 3994339 was last used in PRODUCTION 40 years ago. And, like the 3952708 was used ONLY for Corvette applications. The 3952708 was used on and/or services 7 model years. The 3994339 was used on and/or services only 5 model years. So, it might be the next to go.

While I am generally of the opinion that OEM parts are different than aftermarket, in this particular case, I think they are likely identical. I just can't see that Stant would manufacture two different quality caps for either the 63-69 or 70-74 Corvette applications. These caps are for a highly specialized and, by automotive standards, VERY low volume application. So, any savings that might accrue for manufacturing a lower quality, less expensive part for the aftermarket would be far off-set by the cost of tooling up for such a part. One of the reasons that these caps have remained available for so long is that, since they are for such a low volume application, the tooling for them has lasted a long time. It's possible, though, that the "clock might have run out" for the 63-69 cap. I highly doubt that Stant would invest in the cost of new tooling to make either cap.
