Installing seat belts in a 57.

Hi Guys, I'm helping a friend install seat belts in his 57 FI that has never had belts in it. Doesn't appear to be an inboard stud on tunnel like 58s on up. Do we need to install the bracket and stud from later cars or is there a simpler solution? Thanks in advance,
    Dan

It's been a long time since I owned a 58 but I do remember that was the first year for belts - in the car I bought they were missing. So I would think a 57 would be missing anything to do with belts - most likely have to start from scratch. Might start with one of the large seat belt guys and see what they can provide. Good luck.

Dan, 57 uses the same "cup" riveted to the underbody on both sides of the driveshaft, only diffrence is that instead of the "stud" the 58 & up has, the 57 has a hole for 3/8" bolt. Check the underbody section of the Assy manual for details. Outboard mounting is the same as 58 up, using the same "Hambone" type plates both inner & outer.
My 57 FI car came with Dealer installed seat belts "Lifeline" brand. Good Luck Barry

        Dan,
I would suggest mounting both ends of the seat belts to the body mount behind the seat. I would much rather be attached to the steel frame than the bracket that is attached to fiberglass. In case of a severe collision the fiberglass could breakout.
I have two 1956 Corvettes and both are mounted to the frame.

The 57 Acessories Installation Manual should show it.

Great tips, will crawl under and see what all's there. Have a complete 59 belt set up, brackets and all, will give it the dealer add on look!
