    1958 side Emblem Placement

I am in a strange situation. My body guy covered over the side emblem holes on my 1958. He did such a good job you can not tell from the back side there the original holes were located. I am in the need of some guidance or a template. I am willing to pay for anyone's time and shipment cost if they can give me a rubbing of both sides. This car is very original and I hate to mess it up in the final stages.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Is your stainless cove molding installed? Can you use the cove molding mounting holes for reference points?

Eric, I have a '61 here with emblems on, but easily removable, I could take measurements for you if you'd like. I also have a bare '59 but it has a recent Sermersheim's nose with holes there, so not 100% they're correct, and my own '59(but can't get emblems off without pulling splash shields).

When I get out to the shop I'll see what I can get for you.

Cove molding is not installed yet so I can use them as a reference point. Thanks

Rich. If you can take a large peace of paper and a crayon I could use a rumbing of both sides of where you emblem sit. I will tape it against mine and then place where the holes need to be drilled. I will be glad to send you some money for the time and mailing. Let me know and I will send you my address.

              Thanks,

              Eric

                    Re: 1958 side Emblem Placement

Just a word of caution on locating 1962 model flags.

Our body/paint guy located our flags using an earlier model like your sketch and it was obviously wrong ( too low )

We had him redo do the location...as verified by team leader reply below.

Analysis of photos of several unrestored 1962 fender coves indicates that the ninth rib of the simulated air vent approximately aligns with the "V" created where the two flags intersect on the emblem. The emblem is centered, or close to being centered, vertically in the cove depression. The front-rear dimensions submitted by Mike Ernst appear to be correct, however I have never made those measurements. He may have measured his two NCRS Bowtie 1962's to get his figures. It's a rare occasion when Mike is not correct.

The top piece of the 1961 emblem is mounted slightly below vertical center.

For judging purposes no measurements are made. The Technical Information Manual & judging Guide has never been intended to be a complete restoration manual. Many details require research, exactly what you are doing.

You are to be applauded for your desire to restore your Corvette correctly.

                    Best wishes,
                    Dave Heitzman
